Lakewood Fire Department Holds Joint Emergency Drill with Church & Dwight

On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the Lakewood Fire Department took part in a joint training drill with Church & Dwight at their Lakewood facility. The goal was to make sure responding agencies are ready to work together quickly and safely if a real emergency ever occurs.

The drill featured two training scenarios, one simulating a chemical spill, and another involving a worker injured and stranded on top of a storage tank. Firefighters, Hazmat teams, and Church & Dwight’s on-site emergency teams worked side by side to handle the situations just as they would in real life, setting up safety zones, rescuing the “injured” worker, and containing the simulated spill.

“This type of hands-on training helps everyone stay sharp,” said Fire Chief Jonathan Yahr, Chief of the Lakewood Fire Department. “It’s about teamwork and making sure our firefighters, and our partners at Church & Dwight are fully prepared when it really matters.”

No hazardous materials were used during the drill, and all safety precautions were followed. After the exercise, all teams met to review the training and discuss ways to keep improving their response efforts.

The Lakewood Fire Department thanks Church & Dwight, and the Berkeley Hazmat Emergency Response Team for their partnership and ongoing commitment to safety. The Fire Department continues to train regularly to maintain readiness and ensure the highest level of service for the community.
